read the first episode of SEESAW

A bold and radical commentary on the destruction and trauma of imperialism, SEESAW is the story of two childhood friends coming to terms with their estrangement in the midst of a war for liberation.

Despite its gritty depiction of reality and its exploration of violence, colonialism, and war—SEESAW is, in the end, a celebration of life and love.

It finds uniqueness in its Hong Kong/Taiwan-esque style and setting and genre-blending structure.

LOGLINE

In the midst of a war for liberation, two childhood friends struggle to come to terms with their estrangement as they destroy the colonial regime.

BRIEF

In 1981 colonial South Kaajian—sixteen years after Lien believed Yin to be dead—the two are stationed together in the 201st “suicide” battalion. Having been exploited as a weapon of mass destruction as a child, Lien is nothing more now than a failure and a coward, and she lives with little purpose. Yet when the cynical and cunning Yin assassinates one of their own generals in a daring move for the liberation movement, Lien finds herself deserting the army alongside her.

Hunted by the government, Yin and Lien struggle to face each other about what tore them apart. They ally with refugees, ex-spies, and freedom fighters—but in secret Yin is on a crazed hunt for the long lost Subject in a ploy to overthrow both countries colonizing their home. Without regard for anything, she continues to assassinate those she deems obstacles to her end. Plowing the war to a close with a bold ruse that will cost everything, Yin and Lien—remembering and coming to terms with what happened sixteen years ago—find themselves realizing their feelings for each other.
